Several of us in my family are "high risk" so we have been spending most of Chanukkah at home. My wife came up with a nice "mitzvah project." She and my youngest (who has Down's Syndrome) spent a day making a special dinner, complete with treats, for our neighbors. Their daughter passed away suddenly last year and they weren't going to do anything for Chanukkah this year. So we decided to send them a little something to cheer their holiday.
In a time when so many of us are required to stay at home, it is important to find creative ways to reach out to people in need. Remember needs are not always financial. People are lonely, bored, sick, afraid, or needy in other ways. Hanukkah is a perfect time to spread love to others who may not even know they need help.
Take a few minutes to think of someone who needs you today.
Even a quick phone call may be "just what the doctor ordered!"
From our family to yours, a freilichen Channukah!
